Each of the four players receives 13 cards dealt face-down from a shuffled 52-card deck. Cards rank from Ace (highest) down to 2 (lowest) within each suit. Spades always outrank every other suit regardless of card value.
Before play begins, each player looks at their hand and bids the number of tricks they believe they can win — minimum bid is 1. This is your "call." You must win at least this many tricks to score positive points for the round.
The player to the dealer's right leads the first trick. You must follow suit if possible. If you cannot follow suit, you may play any card — including a spade to trump the trick. The highest card of the led suit wins, unless a spade is played.
If you win exactly your called number of tricks, you score that number as positive points. Win more tricks than called and each extra trick adds 0.1 points. Fail to meet your call and you lose your bid amount as negative points.
